VideoCompress › Reduce Video Size

Reduce a video to an exact size in MB

Not "around 20 MB", not "hopefully smaller" — VideoCompress takes the number you type and delivers a file that lands on it, with quality automatically matched to your video.

File size is a budget — spend it on purpose

A video's size is simply bitrate × duration. Every "reduce video size" tool is really doing one thing: lowering the bitrate. The question is whether it does that blindly (a quality slider, fingers crossed) or deliberately (a target size, measured in two passes).

VideoCompress does the latter: pass one analyzes your video and builds a rate plan for the exact byte budget you set; pass two encodes against that plan. If the result still drifts, it re-encodes with a corrected plan — landing within about ±2% on typical content.

Common targets

10 MB

25 MB

For anything else — 20 MB, 50 MB, 100 MB — type the number into the Custom field. The budget math is identical.

How much video fits in X MB?

  • 10 MB → ~30-60 s at 720p
  • 20 MB → ~4-6 min at 720p, or ~2 min at 1080p
  • 25 MB → ~2-4 min at 720p

Content matters: static talking-head footage compresses far better than fast motion. The two-pass analysis handles this automatically — no settings to touch.

Honest note: compression below a content-dependent floor will cost visible quality. If a 2-hour movie "reduced to 20 MB" sounds too good, it is — that's a 130:1 bitrate cut. Trim, split, or accept the trade.

Three steps

  • Drop the video. It never leaves this PC.
  • Type the target MB — or pick a preset.
  • Press Compress. Preview the result side by side before sending it anywhere.
